Romulan Preybird

this is my interpretation of the Romulan Preybirds described in the Star Trek novel "Final Frontier".
these are the ships which did the fighting against Earth forces during the Romulan War. they are ferried to an operations area by a carrier ship, which was unseen during the war, and carries six squadrons of six preybirds each. they are highly manueverable, heavily armed and capable only of impulse velocities. all are armed with plasma guns, as well as as (presumably) nukes, limpet mines, and some were fitted with plasma mortars, predecessors of the plasma torpedo seen in the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror".
